Fafnir Bearing Company was founded in 1911 in New Britain, Connecticut, and became one of America's most recognized bearing brands. Fafnir specialized in ball bearings for textile machinery, machine tools, electric motors, and agricultural equipment. Acquired by Timken in 2003, the Fafnir brand persists in legacy equipment. Fafnir used a distinctive proprietary numbering system — 205K for an open 6205, 205KDD for a sealed 6205 — completely independent of ISO standards, requiring interchange tables for modern replacement.
